CDL Passenger Endorsement In Clayton, New Jersey

CDL Classifications and Endorsements

There are three types of CDL classifications: Class A, B, and C. These three classifications distinguish the types of vehicles that truck drivers can operate, and the amount of weight they can tow. Class B includes vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds. There are five types of CDL endorsements, which each require a separate test:

• Double and triple trailer
• Passenger*
• School bus
• Tank vehicle
• Hazardous materials

*A passenger endorsement is required for all drivers who operate buses or similar vehicles used to transport people.

Class B CDL Course With Passenger Endorsement

Students at Mike’s Driving School can enroll in a CDL course to pursue a Class B license with Passenger endorsement. This course provides 120 hours of training, divided into classroom instruction, training yard instruction, and practice out in the field. In-class instruction includes:

• NJ Safe Driver Course
• CDL general information
• Air brakes system, inspection, and usage
• Hours of Service Rules
  • Log Books
  • eLogs

After completing the in-class portion, students move to our onsite bus training yard, where they learn:

• Proper pre-trip and post-trip protocols
• How to perform an in-cab inspection
• How to perform an air brake test
• How to back into a spot at a 90-degree turn
• How to correctly perform straight line back and offset back maneuvers
• How to parallel park to the right (blindside) and left (sight side)

Once students are proficient in the skills listed above, they’ll go out on the road with their instructors for additional practice. Students will practice skills including:

• Proper driving on rural roads, city roads, and highways
• How to turn wide
• How and when to stop at railroad tracks

Upon completion of the course, students will be prepared to take the CDL written test. Mike’s Driving School also provides job placement assistance for students who have successfully completed the course. The Class B with Passenger Endorsement Course runs from Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weekend classes may also be offered for students whose schedule cannot accommodate weekday classes.

Passenger Endorsement Requirements

According to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, students must meet the following requirements to qualify for CDL endorsements:

• Be at least 18 years of age for intrastate use (within New Jersey only)
• Be at least 21 years of age with three years driving experience for interstate use, hazardous materials, school bus, or passenger endorsements
• Have 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without glasses)
• Have 70 degrees of peripheral vision in each eye
• Be able to recognize red, green, and amber colors
